A wise man once told me, "a couple should have exactly what they want on their big day... it should be all about them." As a wedding photographer, I couldn't agree more. So often you see couples running around frantically trying to suit everyone else on the day, brides having bought dresses to suit friends and family's tastes (I'm looking at you 'Say Yes To The Dress')... and by the end of it all, they fall exhasuted, not entirely sure if they've enjoyed what should be a day all about them. So it was delightful to see Kay and Jack enjoy a day that they had carefully planned and designed around the things they enjoy and like themselves... and I must emphasise the word 'enjoy' as I'm not entirely sure that Kay's smile left her beautiful face all day... a super (hero) day from start to finish...
So regardless of a certain Mr. Scorsese's opinion on 'theme park ride films', there is no doubt that people the world over flock to see the latest Marvel movies when they hit the big screen. And Kay and Jack are no exception. My wonderful wedding couple, who I had the privilege of photographing on their big day, are massive fans of all things 'comic book' and looked to add another sought after rarity to their collection... albeit one that is a bespoke one off... a cake truly deserving of super hero status. It was fantastic, so please check it out in the images below. And it didn't stop there with little touches throughout, including some brilliant confetti cones, which you'll see I caught a photograph of too. A Marvel-ous touch... apologies.
As well as incorporating elements into their wedding day that truly meant something to them both, something that they both have a passion for is travelling. Indeed, it is something that our dapper groom made sure was a part of the engagement too. Touring China, visiting Iceland, driving Route 66... our lovely couple, enjoy seeing different parts of the world and the place of their engagement was no exception... atop Mount Srd in Croatia no less. It's a part of the world that I would certain love to see and photograph, and whilst holidaying in Dubrovnik, Jack popped that all important question on a windy October day, as the sun began to set, before enjoying a celebratory meal at the mountain top restaurant... it sounds truly magical.
As with so many weddings recently, Kay and Jack's big day suffered a delay or too due to 'you know what', and so one of their best memories of the day was being able to see friends and family again, all in one place. Here's Kay's memory of the day...
"... I (Kay) remember feeling so excited as I was about to walk down the aisle, and had a permanent smile on my face all day..."
For Jack, one of his most memorable moments was a little more stressful... a 20 minute delay in Kay making her way down said aisle... a brides prerogative though I believe? However, when I asked our couple how their day had gone, it was so delightful to hear their response... 'there isn't one thing we would change'... I think that makes for a successful wedding day! And the wedding venue itself was an element that they had been so looking forward to and delivered on all counts as well...
"... we knew we wanted an intimate wedding with close family and friends and Moddershall Oaks suited our needs perfectly. We loved the rural location and the added touch of a mini-moon the next day in their spa."
And I have to agree. Moddershall Oaks is such a fantastic venue, and I'm lucky to be able to work at such a beautiful location as a wedding photographer. On top of that, I must say a big thank you to the staff and team there who not only make a wedding day wonderful, but are so thoroughly helpful for me too. And after a mini-moon to certainly be jealous of, our globe trotting pair spent two weeks in the Maldives for their honeymoon itself... an over water villa, complete with hot tub on the balcony, sunset views and unlimited cocktails... I think you can measure my green with envy level at a value of 'Incredible Hulk'. Congratulations to Kay and Jack!
